- Emmanuel's Touch Therapy
- Since 01.2016
- This is a holistic faith-based PT practice that is dedicated to the assessment and effective treatment of individuals with complex or chronic pain, that has not been successfully treated using traditional medicine or therapy. Treatment includes a comprehensive history and evaluation that has at its core an ability to listen with empathy, and to include the patient in treatment. Most of the treatment is "hands-on", using osteopathic techniques like Craniosacral therapy, PT-inspired Myofascial Release, Joint Mobilization, as well as the ancient wisdom of therapeutic massage, and evidence-based individualized exercise. The goals are to: 1) identify the problem(s); 2) facilitate the body to self-correct, and 3) teach the patient how to stay well.
- Personal Caregiver & Physical Therapist
- Care.com
- Since 08.2012
- I am self-employed as an in-home caregiver for seniors who need assistance with ADL's in their home to safely function, and to prevent falls, injury, or not have to be placed in a senior-care facility or nursing home. I also work with the families of these older clients to coordinate their care. On the other end of the spectrum, I also provide developmental therapy to infants and toddlers with disabilities, to maximize their ability to function and overcome. I work closely with the parents teaching them a home program that they can use with their child. There is a lot of good evidence for early intervention with children who are born premature, show developmental delay, or exhibit neurological disorders including autism or sensory processing disorders, colic, difficulty nursing, and more. Craniosacral therapy applies light touch to the head, neck, and spine of the infant or child, and facilitates self-correction. The results are amazing.
- Pro-Bono Physical Therapist
- Appleton Alliance--Hope Clinic
- 09.2015 - 09.2016
- This was a free-clinic sponsored by Appleton Alliance Church. Its mission was to serve the poor or those without health insurance to pay for medical costs. The clinicians who worked there all volunteered their time and skills, including doctors, nurses, counselors, and therapists. I was the only physical therapist on staff during the year that I volunteered. Many of the patients were Hispanic, and so I was able to utilize my spanish--speaking skills. I found that it was a wonderful way to put the patients at ease and develop a good rapport with them. I was able to use my manual therapy and teaching skills, and the doctors and nurses whom I worked with were able to refer patients to me immediately since we worked in the same location. I could also consult with the doctors and the nurses right away if I had a medical question. It was so wonderful to work with a team of healthcare providers who really cared about their patients. I learned so much, and the patients received excellent individual care.
- Physical Therapist
- Riverside Hospital, Waupaca, WI
- 07.2011 - 01.2012
- I was a contracted physical therapist at this small community hospital, where I saw a mixture of inpatients and outpatients. The inpatient caseload consisted of general medical patients who had become deconditioned, as well as seeing patients after undergoing total hip or knee replacement surgery. Outpatients included patients with acute and chronic pain and limited mobility, and those with cardiac or pulmonary limitations, patients who had undergone rotator cuff surgery, and those patients with balance and gait abnormalities. I also treated patients with lymphedema which included manual lymph drainage/massage and bandaging. Finally, I also participated in an aquatic therapy program for patients with chronic pain or orthopedic limitations.
- Home health Physical Therapist
- Affinity Visiting Nurses, Neenah, WI
- 11.2009 - 04.2011
- This was a position where I saw patients in their homes following dishcharge from the hospital or rehab center after undergoing a joint replacement surgery, or hospitalization for a variety of diagnoses including stroke, weakness, cardiopulmonary episode, or a fall at home. The goals would include an evaluation of the home setting and the patient's condition, and setting up a plan of care. Safety hazards in the home would be eliminated, and a therapeutic program designed and implemented to restore the patient back to their previous level of function. This would often include teaching the patient a home exercise program, and also involving the patient's family in the plan of care. There was, by necessity, a multi-disciplinary approach, whereby I also interacted and communicated with nurses, occupational therapists, doctors and other healthcare professionals who were also involved in treating the patient.
- Industrial Physical Therapist
- Blankenheim Services, Appleton, WI
- 10.2002 - 11.2009
- In this position I would go on-site to various industrial facilities like: Pierce Manufacturing. where they manufacture large fire and rescue vehicles; and McCain Foods where they produce and package food; as well as Hoffmaster Paper Mill where they produce paper products. There were both overuse and traumatic injuries that would occur at these facilities, and my job was two-fold: prevention and treatment. I would go out on the line to evaluate how things were done on particular work stations, and then try to design something that was safer and ergonomically would prevent injuries. It was a challenge, and I learned a lot. My passion, however, still centered on treating the workers, if they did get injured, in a timely and efficient manner so that they could return to work quickly.
- Home health Physical Therapist
- Visiting Nurses Association (now part of Christiana Care)
- 09.2001 - 07.2002
- I was able to treat patients in their homes following hospitalization for surgery or a medical illness. Patient types often included seniors who had undergone a total hip or total knee replacement, or a cardiac patient after receiving CABG surgery. Manual therapy including Myofascial Release and Manual lymph drainage (massage) were used to decrease pain and swelling and facilitate AROM. Therapeutic exercise and gait training were also taught. Fall prevention and safety were emphasized. The goal was always to get the patient back to being independent in walking and their activities of daily living. (ADL's)
